We discuss the possible nature and role of non-physical entanglement, and the classical vs. non-classical interface, in models of human decision-making. We also introduce an experimental setting designed after the double-slit experiment in physics, and discuss how it could be used to discriminate between classical and non-classical interference effects in human decisions.

Il presente volume risale alle origini dell'esperienza religiosa per rispondere alla domanda: come nasce il sacro?; in che modo ciò che è religioso arriva a determinare la vita dell'uomo fino a influenzarne le scelte più personali e rischiose, spesso oltre ciò che si è disposti ad ammettere nell'universo secolarizzato della postmodernità. Le considerazioni svolte riguardano l'incontro con la dimensione etica universale dell'essere umano nel momento in cui si imbatte in qualcosa che lo sconvolge, lo trasforma. Le differenze storiche e fenomenologiche (...) tra le diverse religioni (religione greca, cristianesimo, religione primitiva della natura), oltre ogni pretesa sincretistica, non sono definite in quanto descrizioni di modalità di vita e universi paralleli dal punto di vista storico e spirituale, ma come espressione di uno stesso radicamento in una Realtà, che è vissuta come più reale di ogni altra cosa. Il sensus realitatis offre alla religione, a ogni religione naturale o rivelata, l'orizzonte ultimo di senso intorno al quale comprendere il senso del proprio esistere. La Realtà come pienezza ontologica e compiutezza etica è quel sacro a cui le religioni in maniera diversa partecipano. Negare questa Realtà significa mettere in discussione la struttura stessa dell'esperienza religiosa; cosa che non è possibile se non cadendo in contraddizione. Questa scoperta è l'evento decisivo che ha cambiato nel Novecento il volto della riflessione filosofica sulla religione (R. Otto, Eliade, Kerényi, Dumézil, W.F. Otto, Ries), che in precedenza era rimasta ancora prigioniera di considerazioni metafisiche o teologiche. Oggi è aperta la possibilità di tornare a riferirsi di nuovo al fenomeno religioso, di là dagli interdetti del pensiero critico e secolarizzante, ma anche dalle pretese fondamentaliste delle religioni storiche. Même s’il (...) ne doit pas s’agir là d’un équilibre « stable », seulement d’un équilibre « labile », la « nécessité de la fiction»s’avère être néanmoins la seule possibilité offerte à la raison de demeurer dans le champ de tensions de l’histoire, si elle ne veut pas (comme l’écrit Cohen dans l’ Éthique de la volonté pure ) « laisser les tâches éthiques […] éclairer l’obscurité qui régnait jusque-là dans l’histoire, telles des fulgurations de forces en quelque sorte post-historiques ». El presente artículo busca “condensar” investigaciones precedentes respecto de las formas de leer los vínculos entre poesía e imagen visual. Apostando por la mirada en constelaciones, indaga una manera de aproximarse a figuras y paisajes en la poesía chilena, a través de archivos, conceptos, fronteras y aparatos, que dan cuenta de una sedimentación móvil de escritura y visualidad, estableciendo las posibilidades de leer materiales y técnicas en la historia de taxonomías imaginarias.

In Arendt the domestic sphere is the other of the political sphere. In this contribution, however, the house will be described directly. Firstly, by reconstructing some of the different dichotomies included in the macro-differentiation between house and square; secondly by probing the connections and ties that bind house and square. Thirdly, by trying to read the modern emergence of the two poles «society» and «interiority» as a double process of simultaneous expansion and concentration of domestic semantics and domestic performances.

Julien Offray de La Mettrie (1709-51), author of Machine Man (1747), was the most uncompromising of the materialists of the eighteenth century, and the provocative title of his work ensured it a succès de scandale in his own time. With the advent of the cloud computing model allowing a shared access to massive computing facilities, a surging demand emerges for the protection of the intellectual property tied to the programs executed on these uncontrolled systems. If novel paradigm as confidential computing aims at protecting the data manipulated during the execution, obfuscating techniques (in particular at the source code level) remain a popular solution to conceal the purpose of a program or its logic without altering its functionality, thus preventing reverse-engineering (...) on the program even with the help of computing resources. The many advantages of code obfuscation, together with its low cost, makes it a popular technique. This paper proposes a novel methodology for source code obfuscation that can be used together with other traditional obfuscation techniques, making the code more robust against reverse engineering attacks. Three program complexity metrics are used to define three different single-objective combinatorial optimization versions of the problem, which are solved and analysed. Additionally, three multi-objective problems are defined, those considering each of the selected metrics together with the program execution time, in order to avoid strong obfuscations penalizing the performance. The goal of the defined problems is to find sequences of LLVM optimizations that lead to highly obfuscated versions of the original code. These transformations are applied to the back-end pseudo-assembly code (i.e., LLVM Intermediate Representation), thus avoiding any further optimizations by the compiler. Classical genetic algorithms (GAs) are used to solve the studied problems, namely a basic cellular GA for the single-objective problems and the popular NSGA-II for the multi-objective ones. At the outset of _Marx for Cats_, Leigh Claire La Berge declares that “all history is the history of cat struggle.” Revising the medieval bestiary form to meet Marxist critique, La Berge follows feline footprints through Western economic history to reveal an animality at the heart of Marxism. She draws on a twelve-hundred-year arc spanning capitalism’s feudal prehistory, its colonialist and imperialist ages, the bourgeois revolutions that supported capitalism, and the communist revolutions that opposed it to outline how cats have (...) long been understood as creatures of economic critique and liberatory possibility. By attending to the repeated archival appearance of lions, tigers, wildcats, and “sabo-tabbies,” La Berge argues that felines are central to how Marxists have imagined the economy, and by asking what humans and animals owe each other in a moment of ecological crisis, La Berge joins current debates about the need for and possibility of eco-socialism. In this playful and generously illustrated radical bestiary, La Berge demonstrates that class struggle is ultimately an interspecies collaboration. (shrink)

Information asymmetries are regarded as the main obstacle for consumers to buy responsibly. CSR labels are considered the best tool to give consumers information about the brand's social and environmental performance. Yet, the information and credibility gap associated to the labels may render labels useless. This study aims to unveil the relationship of Spanish consumers with CSR labels, in order to assess the posited consequences of the information and credibility gap. To do so, 385 consumers were interviewed at the main (...) shopping centers in Madrid. The findings support the hypothesized gaps, which leads to recommend public policies in order to improve the effectiveness of CSR labels as an information tool. (shrink)

The purpose of this article is to show how moral imagination can be cultivated through meditation. Moral imagination was conceived as a three-stage process of ethical development. The first stage is reproductive imagination, that involves attaining awareness of the contextual factors that affect perception of a moral problem. The second stage, productive imagination, consists of reframing the problem from different perspectives. The third stage, creative imagination, entails developing morally acceptable alternatives to solve the ethical problem. This article contends that moral (...) imagination can be cultivated through three kinds of meditation: non-discursive, semidiscursive, and discursive meditation. Part one shows how the seed of reproductive moral imagination is planted during sessions of nondiscursive meditation. Productive moral imagination, as will be shown in part two, is nurtured through semidiscursive meditation. Part three will demonstrate the flowering of creative moral imagination through discursive meditation. Reflection and small group discussion on each form of meditation will help to show business people how to cultivate moral imagination. (shrink)
